All About the Dogs
When you see a working sled dog he may be wearing paw socks, also known in Canada as booties! The specially designed doggie boots help to protect their paws from injury. The snow and ice can be very hard and abrasive – imagine running on that with your bare feet! Dogs paw pads are better suited to these extremes but even so, booties help to protect them and also to stop painful ice balls from forming in between their pads and toes. There’s also the question of grip as booties can have special grips on the bottom which will help the sled dogs with traction.
